The Museum School

Avondale Estates, GA

Lord Aeck Sargent assisted The Museum School, a Charter School under the DeKalb County School System, to assist in its relocation from temporary modular facilities to a new permanent home at the former Forrest Hills Elementary School campus.

The School tasked LAS with designing a permanent facility that would not only accommodate future growth, but also embody the School’s philosophy of providing support to its students and encouraging hands-on learning opportunities through exploration, experimentation and collaboration. In helping the Museum School realize its vision, LAS conducted a full site and property assessment of the existing building followed closely by phasing studies, program verification, cost analysis and test fits. LAS also provided fundraising materials to support The Museum School’s capital campaign.

The design for the first phase of the renovation included a new building entrance and outdoor activity area, an Administrative Suite, a state-of-the art Media Center and the adaptive reuse of 13 existing classrooms, including Art and Music Suites. A recent project was the completion of the The Dr. Alexandra and Dr. Anthony Webb Media and Learning Center, which features technology pods, a maker space, outdoor classroom and rain garden and traditional library resources.
