Polk Hall Renovation
Raleigh, NC
The Polk Hall project included a new 5-story building addition connecting the existing U-shaped building providing unencumbered access completely around the building. This addition included new state-of-the-art research laboratories, a BSL3 laboratory, NMR Suite, mass spectrometry suite, associated offices and a mechanical penthouse for the Departments of Molecular & Structural Biochemistry.
The renovation included a facility condition assessment and modernization of the mechanical, electrical and laboratory systems and addresses building accessibility deficiencies and pedestrian connections. The building was partially occupied during construction and the design team assisted with the development of a construction-phasing plan. The renovated areas on either side of the addition included new mechanical, electrical, telecom, and toilets to support the addition and the rest of the building.
The project was designed by BJLAS, a strategic alliance company of Brown Jurkowski Architectural Collaborative and Lord, Aeck & Sargent Architecture.
