Corporate Headquarters & Vaccine Development Lab
Research Triangle Park, NC
In 2000, Lord, Aeck & Sargent began its continuing relationship with AlphaVax Human Vaccines, Inc. AlphaVax is a privately held vaccine discovery and development company that is developing AIDS/HIV vaccines. It is one of four companies to receive funding under the NIAID program to develop select agent vaccines. The R&D lab recently passed the CDC/DOJ security audit and has been cleared for use with select agents.
With CRB Engineers, Lord, Aeck & Sargent designed a 30,000 gsf facility comprising lab and office space for AlphaVax. The facility includes a BSL-3 tissue culture suite; molecular biology laboratory and support space; analytical, immunology purification and protein expression laboratories and support space; a quarantine room; as well as informal meeting spaces, storage and other support spaces.
In our continuing relationship with AlphaVax, Lord, Aeck & Sargent was part of a team of professionals that designed the Vaccine Pilot Plant to produce Phase I and II clinical trial vaccines for select agents under the NIAID program. AlphaVax developed an innovative vaccine delivery technology known as the AlphaVax vector system. This technology represented a major advance in vector technology and presented the opportunity to both immunize against diseases not currently preventable with vaccines and to substantially improve existing vaccines. Immediate applications of the vectors include preventative and therapeutic human vaccines for cancer and infectious diseases, including HIV, as well as the production of vaccine intermediates and therapeutic proteins.
