Originally from Mumbai, India I moved to Ann Arbor Michigan to pursue a Masters in Architecture. Upon graduation, I was faced with the task of finding the right kind of firm that not only produced good architecture but also provided a sound learning and growth platform.
Even before applying to Lord, Aeck & Sargent, I had heard good things about it being a strong design-oriented firm in Atlanta. This point was further emphasized by the then chair of the Architecture program at Michigan, who pointed out that the firm had just opened an office locally. I was a little skeptical as one typically hears horror stories about working as a intern in a satellite office of a large firm.
But that fear was quelled on the first day itself; upon seeing the opportunity presented. Not only was I getting a chance to work with one of the founding principals, one-on-one on a daily basis, but also have easy access to key experts in the firm. Be it in Sustainability, Building Material & Technology, or Specialty Design, Lord, Aeck & Sargent uniquely has blurred the physical distances between the offices and functions as ONE office.
They have been very supportive in ensuring that not only one grows within the firm but professionally as well. We all are equally encouraged to participate and attend seminars, conferences, lectures - whatever our interests within the field. The coolest thing of it all being one gets an opportunity to give his / her own lecture to the entire firm and be broadcast to all the offices.
