Lord, Aeck & Sargent Promotes Chapel Hill Office Leader to Principal

Office Has Grown and Diversified Under Direction of Scott O’Brien

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., May 9, 2005 – J. Scott O’Brien, AIA, a 10-year veteran of Lord, Aeck & Sargent and director of its Chapel Hill, North Carolina office, has been named a principal of the architecture firm.

“Scott moved from Atlanta to launch our Chapel Hill branch office in March 2004, and since then the office has more than doubled its staff, has expanded its client base and most important, has been successful in diversifying the markets we serve across the state,” said Tony Aeck, FAIA, Lord, Aeck & Sargent managing principal. “His hard work and dedication have been instrumental in positioning the office to handle significant projects in the science, historic preservation, arts and culture, education, and housing and mixed use markets.”

Aeck noted that when Lord, Aeck & Sargent established the office, the firm’s North Carolina clients, primarily colleges and universities, hired the firm to plan, program and design science research laboratories and science teaching facilities. The firm’s North Carolina projects now also reflect its considerable expertise in historic preservation with recent wins from Salem College to restore and rehabilitate early and late 19th century buildings for use as modern dormitories.

In addition to managing Lord, Aeck & Sargent’s Chapel Hill office, O’Brien is an experienced architect working on many of the firm’s higher education science projects on campuses such as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Central Carolina Community College, North Carolina State University and East Carolina University.
O’Brien is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is a National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) certificate holder. He received his master’s degree in architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology and his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from McGill University
