Village Green

Rome, GA

Lord Aeck Sargent was contracted by the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority (NWGHA) to design 10 sustainable public housing apartments adjacent to the recently developed housing apartments on Division Street in Rome.

Of the 10 apartments, eight are 1,450 sf, three-bedroom apartments, and two are 1,245 sf, two-bedroom apartments. This project is funded by a grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is certified through the Enterprise Green Communities Program.

The Enterprise Green Communities Program is the first national green building program focused entirely on affordable housing. Green Communities is a program designed to help developers, investors, builders and policymakers make the transition to a greener future for affordable housing. The program requires an integrated design process, including a charrette for all stakeholders prior to the beginning of design. Sustainable features include a rainwater harvesting system, roof-mounted photovoltaic panels, and recycled clay tile roofing.
