Old Train Depot Rehabilitation
Milledgeville, GA
Chris R. Sheridan & Co. and Lord Aeck Sargent teamed in a Design/Build relationship for the historic rehabilitation project.
The project entailed minor renovation to the original office area and shed of the building to accommodate both small break out spaces and a large reception area. The lighting for the main reception space was upgraded and the floor carpeted. The newest portion of the building was rehabilitated for the Parking and Transportation Office of the University. Three private offices, a catering kitchen, new public window for customer service and a break room for bus drivers were incorporated to the southern portion of the building.
The preservation goals of the project included keeping historic masonry exposed, accentuating the historic doors and emphasizing the trusses and eaves of the building with modest light fixtures. Openings that were bricked in have been opened up again to provide natural light to the offices in the Parking and Transportation area. An inviting work environment has been achieved with the use of glazed doors that transmit natural light while maintaining privacy.
Working within a limited budget, the team was able to maximize the fiscal experience and cost effective practices of Chris R. Sheridan & Company to efficiently and effectively address design and logistical issues. The team worked together to keep the project budget within the scope identified.
