In 2016, the owners of a prominent retail area in Atlanta’s Historic Castleberry Hill district came to Lord Aeck Sargent with a unique design challenge: design a “park” within a 500-square-foot space.
Although spatially small, the area is located at a highly visible corner adjacent to transit and several major pedestrian/bike routes. The resulting design utilizes uniquely crafted raised wood decking to create a seating, activity staging and outdoor eating area while protecting the root zones of large canopy trees. High-capacity bike storage, raised garden beds, solar lighting and raised planter beds are also key components of this tiny yet impactful space.
