It is with great sadness that LAS announces the passing of a friend and colleague, Kim Buff. Kim lost her two-month battle with the very rare cancer, NK/T-cell leukemia, and an immune disorder called HLH (Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis).
Kim was an exceptional architect and project manager. She led the design efforts for a major, significant research building for UNC Chapel Hill, the $80 million Mary Ellen Jones building, through the completion of construction documents. Kim was a natural leader in the office, and contributed to projects by sharing her significant technical design and management skills, delivering all suggestions with enthusiasm and calm competence. She was intelligent, hard-working, enthusiastic, joyful, and a great and positive influence on all who were fortunate enough to work with her or be with her. We miss her every day.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband, Elliot Buff, and their two children, Delany and Merrit. She was also survived by her father, Tommy Blalock Jr.; her brother, Tommy Blalock III (Amy); father and mother-in-law, Wayne and Gail Buff, brother-in-law, Ryan Buff (Julia); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Bobbie Blalock.
AIA Triangle offered a lovely tribute to Kim that includes details on how to donate to an education fund for Delany and Merrit Buff.
